I am experimenting with linking categorised videos on a website. An automatic search scrapes video sites and collects the videos here. The search is not very smart. One day I will get the videos organized into sensible categories, block out the rubbish, find the best videos etc. One day.
Computer Security
Are you concerned about online security, computer privacy and defending against virus and spyware pests? I am. We should be.
I recommend using a more secure browser, especially for internet use relating to entertainment, music, movies, games and downloads.
On sites like that you often find marketing and advertising tactics that are (at least) aggressive and (at worst) intended to spread adware, spyware and viruses.
It is worth learning how to tighten up security settings in any browser. The trouble is, you can get blinded by jargon trying to find out about it.
At ComputerSecure.NET I explain computer security simply. (Explaining computer security simply is harder than it sounds.)
Here is something you might not know about computer security:
The most trusted computer security specialists – e.g. respected anti-virus and anti-spyware vendors – usually offer free software that we can use to keep our computers secure.
Of course these companies are happy if you can pay money for their latest products with full customer support.
But the good, honest suppliers of security software believe that basic security measures are a necessity, like water. And everybody should have the basics.
Whether or not we want to buy the latest fully-featured products for defence against the latest spyware and virus threats, these companies will give us the security essentials.
These companies give us, free:
- Anti-spyware tools
- Very capable anti-virus software
- Dedicated tools to remove known worms and other widespread security threats
Which companies am I talking about – who give away all this free security software? Browse around ComputerSecure.NET to find out.
Try Some Other Browsers
Firefox
Try a safer browser. It's free. This site looks better in Firefox. (It looks best in Firefox on a Linux computer.)
Opera.
Try Opera. It has features and options that you simply cannot get in other browsers.
Well, everybody else might not have the same tastes.
But Opera is small, fast, and free. And it will help keep you secure on the web.
